Colbert Hotel since 1928

1928 : Mister Caruso, owner, gives in management the current premises of the Bar "Café" to madam GAY (mother), who quickly brings a mattering development by creating a small unit of restauration.

1935 :  To compete with the Fumaroli hotel, the Gay family decides to open 12 rooms to the 1st floor.

1936 :  The second floor of 12 rooms will be opened to the clientele, as well as a festive room in under ground. (Anecdote: during the general shortage of materials, the GAY brothers were obliged to get back the cables of a bridge destroyed by the war, route of Majunga, to make the "nails" which will be used in the fixation of the floor of the village hall and the current "La Taverne" (Inn).

1938 :   The number of rooms in Antananarivo was not enough so the decision to acquire an adjoining ground of the hotel is taken to build the "Palais Colbert" (Colbert Palace) : 30 rooms on 5 floors.

1946 : Opening of the cake shop / lounge of tea on the square of the tourism office and the store Bata.

1949 : Exploitation of the hotel Fumaroli and creation of the nightclub "Le Caveau".

1955 : Reception of the building Bompard which includes 3 floors with 2 renting apartments by floor.

1963 : Changing the name from "S.A.R.L.  GAY brothers" to "Inc. Colbert Hotel".

1965 : Reorganization of rooms and bar of Colbert with inauguration by the president TSIRANANA

1971 : Acquisition of the building Colbert by the Inc. Colbert, building which belongs to the heirs CARUSO
